Shimo’s Restaurant
I wanted to start off with my favorite Japanese restaurant in the US, and I have been all over. This place is small and extremely lively, located in the heart of the Inner Richmond at 24th and Clement in San Francisco. Shimo-san is the owner and head chef.
You can definitely tell from the moment you walk in this Sushi Restaurant that it’s as close to authentic as you are going to get. It’s not in any way a modern stainless steel feeling place. My recommendation as a regular is to get there early and find a place at the bar. Ask Shimo to bring on the Sashimi and let me choose the best of the best. Obviously the quality of fish will change from time to time, and if you truly like sushi you won’t care what the fish is.
Among the plethora of Japanese food you can order including the great Chowamushi, one of my favorites. They have an amazing selection of Sake, from high end bottles to bottles the rest of us can afford.
Even though this place is a bit out of the way, it is so worth it!
