We constantly talk about the result of too many links pointing to a single page at the same time, resulting in a link penalty. An example of how to drive a ton of links to a page without causing a link penalty would be link bait. Imagine if 100’s of bloggers write articles about your page at the same time because of some crazy story that you created. The logic of links within the body of the document is now the ultimate source of link credit might be valid.
I believe that a question was posted on Webmaster world a while back, what if you created the cure for cancer? Your site obviously would get 100’s of thousands of links in a day. Which with the theories that SEO’s talk about could cause a massive spam penalty. This leads me to believe that if all of those links derived form the navigation it would be dangerous.
Thus if you where to purchase a ton of links that mostly come from the navigation of sites to a single page, you would surely feel a filtered pinch in your rankings. I am curious has anyone been able to purchase a ton of links without seeing such a penalty to a single page? This would crack my theory.
