Recently I have been trying some alternative SEO tactics to see how well they seem to work. One such tactic, which worked extremely well with Yahoo, was to attempt gaining popularity by having people come to my site organically. Which in turn caused many different users to type the URL into the search box of Yahoo. This was the only place that my test site ranked for initially.

The site had only about 4 links to it, under ultra competitive keywords. Within 48 hours after starting this campaign I ranked all across Yahoo for my most competitive keywords. It seems like a logical concept to measure the actual popularity of a new site based upon its own popularity for its name. I will continue experimenting with this concept.

BTW, this site still does not rank on Google for anything. I do not think they use this strategy, or if they do its not weighted as highly.
